Comments: Amy Saunders read a book on sword swallowing, figured out how to do it and has been doing it ever since. She describes herself as a cartoon version of a drag queen and has spent her career wrestling with the whole notion of Fame and whether or not she wants it. What she does want is respect, and she certainly earned ours during this week’s interview.
PS – This week we release the first of the interviews we captured while I was in Pahoa Hawaii visiting Robert. While there I lining up a bunch of different interviews and attempting to improve the overall audio quality of the Podcast. We were thrilled with the recordings we got and kicked ourselves because one of the best interviews of the week accidentally didn’t get recorded. We figured out how to make sure that doesn’t happen again, but this whole adventure is one big learning process… A friend recently sent me this great quote by Ira Glass who produces “This American Life.”
Every time I sit down to edit one of the recordings we’ve captured I realize that the product that I’m putting out isn’t nearly the product I’d like it to be, but I feel there’s an enormous value in simply making the attempt. Hopefully my love of the art form and my desire to become a better editor compensate a bit for my current lack of knowledge and skill. Things will improve over time. Unlike the immediate feedback I get when I do a show, editing this podcast and putting these things out feels a bit like I’m working in a vacuum. There is no applause… Instead I find comfort in seeing the number of hits slowly increasing which infers that there is an audience for this thing. Thanks for listening, and special thanks to those people who are offering their feedback about the show.
