Comments: The nature of Glenn and Robert’s relationship has been based in friendly antagonism since their first meeting at the 1988 Halifax Busker’s Festival. Beneath the snide remarks and playful put-downs is a strong friendship and mutual respect. Both were brought up with highly intelligent father figures who likely helped shape their personalities and the characters that they present when they step out on stage. This week’s interview is a spirited romp between two legends of the street scene who oddly enough both owe a debt to the animal kingdom for their unmistakeable identities.

  1. Barryf says:

My favorite moment with Glenn happened at the Daidogei Festival in Shizouka, Japan.

I was watching his performance in a beautiful theater on the opening night. I was sitting in the stage-right wing. He exited through the curtains, center-stage.

My jaw fell to the floor!

Any other performer I can imagine, including myself, would have dropped the shtick and walked, perhaps with a post-performance buzz, back to the shared dressing room to change.

    Not Glenn. No.

Glenn trotted back to the dressing room some 100 yards away. In character. As if the audience was still watching, he trotted all the way.

It changed me to see that. I think about it often – even 15 years later.

One of the many great memories I have of my time with Glenn.

Damn I’m glad this isn’t a eulogy. Live on, brother Glenn.

    Barry

  2. Bertha Brophy says:

I saw Glenn Singer as “A Man and His Zebra El Gleno Grande in Laughlin NV April, 2004 and still laugh and remember his performance. Is he still performing and where? I would certainly enjoy spending time with him again.

Drop Glenn a line and find out where he’ll be playing next. That’s my suggestion. Email listed under his picture on the right hand side of the page – just remove the spaces and brackets around the @ mark. We did that to prevent spam.
