A performer, writer and storyteller, Allison Williams trained in mask and movement theatre and playwriting. She spent 12 years touring the Renaissance Festival circuit, first as a fire-eater/stunt performer with The Daring Devilinis, then with the aerial/acrobatic show Aerial Angels. After leaving renfaires (they can pay you like shit or treat you like shit but they can’t do both) she took Aerial Angels to street festivals around the world, including appearances at the Street Performer World Championships in Dublin, Linz Pflaasterspektakel, Mercantia Certaldo, and busker festivals across Canada, as well as corporate events in 16 countries. The Angels have also done street shows in Frankfurt, Munich, several cities in Mexico, Bruges, Amsterdam and Covent Garden.
As the Artistic Director of Aerial Angels, Allison has led the creation of Fallen (Bible women + circus), Sleepwalkers (Grand Guignol + circus) and Stand Up 8 (reality circus). As a “teaching company,” Aerial Angels are proud to have introduced 21 college interns to the world of street performing, to have assisted the founding of circus clubs at University of Alaska Anchorage, Kalamazoo College and Bard College, and to have seen Angels performers go on to form their own shows, including The Street Circus (former Angel Kimberly Craig with Daniel Craig), Fantastic Flash (Marina Petrano), M.A. Wyatt (title changing daily!), Shelli Buttons (Shelli Nock) and Starshine Hoops (Kacie Couch). Angels interns have also been accepted to NECCA, SANCA, Aloft, and École National du Cirque. The Aerial Angels’ company outreach program, Starfish Circus, trains 2000 K-12 students every year in circus arts, problem-solving and courageous action.
As a writer and storyteller, Allison’s work has appeared in The New York Times, the Christian Science Monitor, and on NPR and CBC, and she is a two-time winner of The Moth Story SLAM. Her essay for Magic Magazine, on the process of doing a TV show referred to as America’s Got Lawsuits, went viral. She microblogs on Instagram as GuerrillaMemoir.
Allison currently serves as Artistic Director for the Dundas Buskerfest and manages festivals in Dubai for Dolphin Creative.
